That is a great question, and honestly, there is not one universal answer, even when only talking about GLP compounds.
Once a peptide is reconstituted, it generally becomes more vulnerable to degradation, but the actual rate depends on several factors. The specific compound, formulation, diluent, concentration, storage temperature, light exposure, agitation, repeated temperature changes, and how often the vial is punctured can all affect how long it remains stable.
It is also important to separate potency from sterility. A peptide may still retain much of its potency while the contamination risk increases from repeatedly accessing the vial. At the same time, a solution can still look completely clear even if some degradation has occurred. You usually cannot confirm either one just by looking at it.
Some compounds and formulations can last longer than others. Certain commercial GLP products are specifically formulated and tested to remain usable for several weeks, while other reconstituted medications are intended to be used immediately after mixing. However, those commercial stability timelines cannot automatically be applied to every manually reconstituted research vial because the formulation, container, preservatives, and testing may all be different.
A major reason you hear so many different answers is that there is still a lot we do not know. Very few people send reconstituted samples to a laboratory immediately after mixing and then have them retested after 30, 60, or 90 days under different storage conditions. Even fewer test both potency and sterility throughout that period. Because of that, many of the timelines shared online are general rules rather than compound-specific evidence.
My personal view is that some properly handled peptides probably remain stable longer than people commonly suggest, but that should not be treated as a guarantee. In general, it is still better to select an appropriate vial size, refrigerate it properly, protect it from light, avoid unnecessary shaking or temperature changes, and use it within a reasonable period instead of stretching one reconstituted vial over several months.
